My mid-year resolution is to get better at upholstery..I love painting furniture, but I also love playing with different fabrics, and patterns..that’s the reason I have started two different upholstery projects at the same time..
The other reason, it is summer now in Arizona, and upholstery is something I can do in the comfort of my home..and hopefully by the time the summer ends I will have learned a lot , practiced even more, and I will become better..
First chair is a thrift store find, you can read all about it here:
It has a gorgeous shape, and some good bones..So far, after a lot of tears, blood, sweat and a few blisters, I have managed to strip the chair down to the bones, so I can start clean..
The chair appears to have been reupholstered at a point in time, but they haven’t bother covering the staples with piping or anything decorative..and I am talking few hundreds of staples..
after the newer upholstery was off, I was challenged by the old staples, that were buried deep into the wood..
…and a big old, nasty pile of stuff..
I have already chosen the fabric, but I’m still waiting on my new sewing machine that I have ordered…YEY!! so excited! then, I can finish the piping..
Second project is a beautiful old, parlor chair..
..this one, I think it had a trillion staples and a tone of glue..but, it is getting there, and is ready to get a new face lift..It needs some repair, and a paint job, but it will be beautiful..
For now, I have a hard time deciding on the colors..and the fabric..any suggestions are appreciated..
Hopefully all will go according to plan, and I will not have any more unpleasant surprises…
XOXO
Denise
