It is not a secret that home decor stores and hardware stores feel like Disneyland to me. Today, after a long day of work, I felt the need to clear my mind, to relax and to feel inspired…Anthropologie is one of those places, that has that “something” for me…it kind of feels like home, especially when they have this comfortable bed in the middle of the store, with  soft sheets and warm blankets, that I may or may not mess up a little….it also has a good selection of hand made products. If Etsy would have a physical store, thats how I imagine it would look like. I do not go there often, their prices don’t really fit in my budget, but if I do shop there, it’s usually for my collection of knobs…yes, I admit, I watch their website like a hawk, waiting for knobs to go on sale..I am a self admitted knob hoarder, don’t judge(wink)…
I do not know if the fact that Halloween is just around the corner has anything to do with it, but I felt drawn instantly by anything owl shaped..it was like a magnet. The pencil holder was my absolute favorite, followed by that cute little knob. I didn’t buy anything else but some knobs from the clearance bin, and I left totally relaxed, calm, and inspired…way cheaper than therapy and just what I needed before I jumped in the twenty something mile, bumper to bumper drive back home.

Do you have a store that you go to, searching for inspiration?

Amsterdam is so…gray

Before I show you the latest piece I finished, I just wanted to thank all of you for the love and support you showed me! I truly appreciate all the nice words you sent my way, you guys are amazing!

It’s been crazy this past few days trying to finish to0 many projects at a time, shopping for new pieces to be transformed, working late hours at my day job…All I can do for now is dream of the day that I can do this (painting and blogging)full time, and not sit behind a desk all day..

Also, I am working on a plan, to try to get myself more organized and be able to post more often. I have so many ideas in my head, I have been taking lots of pictures while working on some pieces in order to make tutorials, all I need to do is to find time to actually sit down and write them.

Last week I went to my first vintage market..I know, its crazy, I cant believe I’ve never been to one before..I always wanted to, but never knew where they were..now, I know about at least four that will be held in the next couple of months..

I’m tempted and would love to participate to one, but I am scared…I just think I cant get the things done in time..I do not even know where to start even..I would appreciate all the tips that you guys can give me..what are some of the pros and cons..anything will help, really!

Last week I worked on a beautiful dresser that I picked up not too long ago from a dealer..It has beautiful details, and the design on the drawers kind of reminds me of a pineapple (???) though, but was missing a piece from the top..It was actually shorter in the back, I assume it had a mirror at one point, but now that was gone..So we had to get a little creative..we cut a piece of wood that we picked up from Home depot, leveled it, sanded, added wood filler to fill the gaps, more sanding and now you don’t even know what was missing a part.

The color I used is called Amsterdam from Benjamin  Moore, and its a beautiful gray with enough  blue to make it different..

The knobs are from Anthropologie, and I bought them with another piece in mind, but I decided this one is a better fit…for the finish I used stain and water poly..and I named it Josephine

A few weeks ago I shared on my Facebook  page, this desk that I picked up at my local Goodwill. It is not a secret that I tend to spend most of my lunch breaks there, but I can’t stay away!

It was in decent condition, but the middle drawer was busted…like in pieces..so, not a big deal, it could have been worse..

I loaded it in my SUV and drove around with it in the back of the car all day..yes, kind of weird, but when you find a deal, don’t let it go away, follow your instinct.

The top was covered in something that wanted to resemble leather, but it wasn’t really leather..and it was full of holes and had to  go away. I wasnt sure what I wanted to do with it, especially with the top, so it just sat in my garage for a couple of weeks..

..until one day when I found this wallpaper on sale at Allmodern…I just couldn’t belive the clearance price, I mean it was probably the cheapest wallpaper that I could find..I knew its going to work with the desk right away..the color, the pattern, everything was perfect..

I painted the desk in Black Horizon by Benjamin Moore, which is actually a very dark blue..

The knobs are from Anthropologie, and since I only buy from there when they have a clearance sale, I had to wait a few weeks, until I found something that I knew is going to work with the look I was going for..

DSC 0205 Venus

I used Mod Podge to apply the wallpaper to the top, and it worked like a charm..

The finish is smooth and glossy, and I believe the wallpaper was the perfect choice..

Can I start by saying how much I love how this dresser turned out? It is painted in Benjamin Moore paint, but to be true, not sure which one exactlly. I have been lucky to pick up a few mis-tints at a local Ace Hardware store for an amazing price. The wood was amazing to paint on, and even if it was painted entirely with a brush, it looks like it was sprayed. It doesn’t have one single brush stroke, that is just amazing. My new brush did the job flawlessly.

The chest needed some reconstructive work, the back was missing almost entirely, the bottom drawers had to be replaced on most of the drawers, but structurally, it was perfect….oh, and how much I love the skeleton keys..they are the original ones on the chest, they just needed a little bit of cleaning..I rubbed them with steel wool and they looked perfect..

dsc 0063 001 Arthemis

I used glaze to gave it the aged look, and then I protected with a few coats of wax. I have to admit that glaze made me a little nervous, since it was the first time using it..and I kind of came up with my own formula..I mixed it with Minwax stain in Dark Walnut, and practiced on a piece of wood that I had painted in the same color..I just wanted to make sure I wont go to crazy and darken it up too much..

dsc 0057 001 Arthemis

The wax is from Fiddes, and is a wonderful wax,  probably the only was that I will ever use. It goes on smoothly, and it buffs to perfection in a few minutes after you apply it. I get mine from a wonderful Ebay user, and I am sure that there are a few other online places that sells it.

The knobs are from Anthropologie, and for this chest I decided to mix and match. It happened that I bought them a while ago when they were on sale, and since I am a self admitted knob horder, the chest happened to be the perfect candidate.

..I am sure that you noticed the amazing picture by now..I love the frame, and the picture itself is just lovely..My friend Marna gifted the picture to me, and I loved it from the first moment I laid my eyes on it..The picture was taken in Germany, somewhere around the 1900′s..I love the hair style, and the outfits..amazing..
