I love good paper..and great design…and environmentally friendly products…I found Smock Paper when I was searching for a good wrapping paper to use for one of my projects. Unfortunately, there is only one distributor in the Phoenix area, and the selection slightly poor, but I did found a roll of paper I absolutely love. Since Christmas is just around the corner, and most of my family in Europe, I decided to get some of their Christmas cards as well. Having to chose from all those wonderful designs was so hard…Smock paper does really awesome letterpress, and they are passionately committed to the environment. All of their papers are printed on a pesticide-free bamboo paper, and are donating 1% of their sales to environmental causes.

They also have an Etsy shop, where I actually ordered my cards from.

Have you bought anything from Smock Paper before? Have you got your Christmas cards already? I always love getting cards in the mail, and not just e-cards…it is so nice actually opening something else than bills and advertisements..

Hello everybody and Happy Monday to you!!

It is Veterans Day today, and I am so thankful to every service member who has ever served our country for defending our freedom and protecting our country.

Today, I am so glad to share with you one of my favorite makeovers so far, a sweet small dresser/buffet/not sure how to call it (smile)..

I bought this from a dealer, I was lucky to stumble over it while visiting an antique dealer searching for something else, and it was so cute, I couldn’t pass on…as sweet as it looked, it gave me the run for the money..what I thought was stain and polyurethane, was more like some sort of unidentified substance, covered in some plastiky finish…I tried to remove it with Citristrip, which usually does the trick, but no..it turned into dust, which was the weirdest thing..

Lots of sanding, sweat and tears later..it was clean, and ready for my coral paint…I am on a coral run lately, I absolutely love the color..I paired it with some green knobs, and I also painted the insides dark grey..the grey sort of brought the design together..

Hope you enjoy it as much as I do. It will be on my Etsy shop later today.

Shipping is available anywhere in the US.

xoxo

hello friends!!! happy Monday!!!

how was your weekend? mine was good, way to short, and didn’t get done as many things I actually planned..I did slept in, both days, and that felt good..
Today I have to show you a sweet dresser that was in need of a makeover…

we named it Ceres..it reminds me of the cloudy skies from home…my other home (Romania)..
it’s a gentle giant..
.

while overall was in a good condition, the top was in a terrible shape. it actually had a top tier, that we removed, the edges were raised, and only a miracle could have straighten that up…after we removed the shelf, we sanded down quite a lot…there is still a little bit raised but only noticeable when you run your hand over the top..i think is as good as new now, maybe better…the knobs were painted especially for this dresser..i saw them on Etsy..mid-century knobs, according with the seller description..there was a little rust, and a gold paint that had to go away, to make space for the Rustoleum Gloss Apple Red…
match made in heaven..love the dark blue, red combination…

what projects have you completed this weekend? did you get everything on your list done?

xoxo

It is not a secret that home decor stores and hardware stores feel like Disneyland to me. Today, after a long day of work, I felt the need to clear my mind, to relax and to feel inspired…Anthropologie is one of those places, that has that “something” for me…it kind of feels like home, especially when they have this comfortable bed in the middle of the store, with  soft sheets and warm blankets, that I may or may not mess up a little….it also has a good selection of hand made products. If Etsy would have a physical store, thats how I imagine it would look like. I do not go there often, their prices don’t really fit in my budget, but if I do shop there, it’s usually for my collection of knobs…yes, I admit, I watch their website like a hawk, waiting for knobs to go on sale..I am a self admitted knob hoarder, don’t judge(wink)…
I do not know if the fact that Halloween is just around the corner has anything to do with it, but I felt drawn instantly by anything owl shaped..it was like a magnet. The pencil holder was my absolute favorite, followed by that cute little knob. I didn’t buy anything else but some knobs from the clearance bin, and I left totally relaxed, calm, and inspired…way cheaper than therapy and just what I needed before I jumped in the twenty something mile, bumper to bumper drive back home.

Do you have a store that you go to, searching for inspiration?

Back to school

Well, maybe just a different type of school…I am a happy BYW Boot Camp student with one and only Holly Becker of Decor8! BYW stands for Blogging Your Way E-course…and I am on my way to becoming a better blogger. Well, at least I hope so! I am finding the whole E-course fascinating as tons of people from around the world are following this dynamic course, Holly, and her team. She has quite the talented co-teachers and I am just so happy I was able to register.  I went to the registration page many times before actually deciding to go forward with enrolling. I have visited a few fellow classmates bloggers this weekend, and I already feel inspired..I am looking forward to the next 4 weeks..I may be a beginner, but I will be a better beginner thanks to BYW!

First hateful comment

When I first started blogging, I knew there will be criticism…It is inevitable, after all is the internet era, people can say whatever they want to say, whenever they want to say it. Today I got rather an unkind comment to a piece I recently finished, and to some extent that is fine. I do not tolerate however, the language that was used. Everyone is entitled to an opinion, and not everybody has to like each piece of furniture I paint. I have debated all day if I should remove that comment, or any other that might follow. I decided to keep it, despite the trivial language used, so that other people to see how ungracious that person was. If you find it offensive, please let me know and I will remove it. Yes, it did hurt my feelings..quite a lot..especially the choice of words..I am fine knowing that somebody didn’t like that piece, after all, it was my time, my money and my sweat..Advise is always appreciated, but in the end, decision is entirely mine. I do not buy something because is pretty, I buy something because I see potential in those badly damaged pieces, I see something through the dents, cracks, broken drawers, or missing pieces. This is what I had to say…for now..

I love ocean…the smell, the sound, the sand..I could spend hours just watching the waves…

And is quite funny, I ended up living in the desert…Hopefully, not for a very long time..

Tomorrow we are leaving for s short road trip..no plans, no reservations…wherever we feel like stopping, will stop..I am being adventurous for once..

…and hopefully, I will be taking this very same picture myself tomorrow..

Carpe Diem!!

My favorite wax..

is Fiddes wax..

wax My favorite wax..

no matter how many pieces I waxed so far, I still say wow, after I buff it..and today, was no exception…it is one of my favorite finishes, and Fiddes, probably the only brand of wax I will ever use..its smooth, creamy, shiny and super easy to buff..and did I mentioned it goes a long way?

I totally loved the finish of my Athos dresser where I used dark and light wax to give the piece the age look..

DSC 0385 678x1024 My favorite wax..

or on this dresser, where I used just clear wax to protect it..

Just wanted to brag about it..now I’ll get going..still have some wax on, wax off to do..

Mid-year resolution

My mid-year resolution is to get better at upholstery..I love painting furniture, but I also love playing with different fabrics, and patterns..that’s the reason I have started two different upholstery projects at the same time..

The other reason, it is summer now in Arizona, and upholstery is something I can do in the comfort of my home..and hopefully by the time the summer ends I will have learned a lot ,  practiced even more, and I will become better..

First chair is a thrift store find, you can read all about it here:

photo 21 e1339472391178 768x1024 Mid year resolution

It has a gorgeous shape, and some good bones..So far, after a lot of tears, blood, sweat and a few blisters, I have managed to strip the chair down to the bones, so I can start clean..

DSC 0801 Mid year resolution

The chair appears to have been reupholstered at a point in time, but they haven’t bother covering the staples with piping or anything decorative..and I am talking few hundreds of staples..

DSC 0800 Mid year resolution

after the newer upholstery was off, I was challenged by the old staples, that were buried deep into the wood..

DSC 07991 Mid year resolution

…and  a big old, nasty pile of stuff..

DSC 0804 Mid year resolution

I have already chosen the fabric, but I’m still waiting on my new sewing machine that I have ordered…YEY!! so excited! then, I can finish the piping..

Second project is a beautiful old, parlor chair..

DSC 0082 Mid year resolution

..this one, I think it had a trillion staples and a tone of glue..but, it is getting there, and is ready to get a new face lift..It needs some repair, and a paint job, but it will be beautiful..

DSC 0092 001 Mid year resolution

For now, I have a hard time deciding on the colors..and the fabric..any suggestions are appreciated..

DSC 0098 001 Mid year resolution

Hopefully all will go according to plan, and I will not have any more unpleasant surprises…

XOXO

Milking stool update

Remember the milking stool that I picked up at an estate sale a couple of weeks ago?I thought it looks awkward and cute in the same time, and I thought it would be the perfect chair to use when painting..

That didn’t last long to say at least, because one day I was bored, didn’t want to start a big project, so I decided to pick on this little one..I had some Rustoleum spray paint that I picked up in one of my visits to Home Depot..but, I wanted something extra for it..  I had some ideas in my mind, once I revisited one of my favorite Knack makeovers..

I taped off  Frog Tape on each leg, so once I took off the tape I had some amazing wood showing..I used  dark walnut stain to brush it on the raw wood, just to give it a little bit of color and shine..I finished off the look with some high gloss lacquer from Rustoleum.

How do you like it?
