Can I start by saying how much I love how this dresser turned out? It is painted in Benjamin Moore paint, but to be true, not sure which one exactlly. I have been lucky to pick up a few mis-tints at a local Ace Hardware store for an amazing price. The wood was amazing to paint on, and even if it was painted entirely with a brush, it looks like it was sprayed. It doesn’t have one single brush stroke, that is just amazing. My new brush did the job flawlessly.

The chest needed some reconstructive work, the back was missing almost entirely, the bottom drawers had to be replaced on most of the drawers, but structurally, it was perfect….oh, and how much I love the skeleton keys..they are the original ones on the chest, they just needed a little bit of cleaning..I rubbed them with steel wool and they looked perfect..

I used glaze to gave it the aged look, and then I protected with a few coats of wax. I have to admit that glaze made me a little nervous, since it was the first time using it..and I kind of came up with my own formula..I mixed it with Minwax stain in Dark Walnut, and practiced on a piece of wood that I had painted in the same color..I just wanted to make sure I wont go to crazy and darken it up too much..

The wax is from Fiddes, and is a wonderful wax, probably the only was that I will ever use. It goes on smoothly, and it buffs to perfection in a few minutes after you apply it. I get mine from a wonderful Ebay user, and I am sure that there are a few other online places that sells it.

The knobs are from Anthropologie, and for this chest I decided to mix and match. It happened that I bought them a while ago when they were on sale, and since I am a self admitted knob horder, the chest happened to be the perfect candidate.

..I am sure that you noticed the amazing picture by now..I love the frame, and the picture itself is just lovely..My friend Marna gifted the picture to me, and I loved it from the first moment I laid my eyes on it..The picture was taken in Germany, somewhere around the 1900′s..I love the hair style, and the outfits..amazing..

XOXO
Denise

Great colors! The picture is so cool. Keep up your excellent work. And glad you’re in the USA!
Thank you so much!
I love it! Nice subtle work with the glaze, which I know can be tricky, because I just made a mess with some glaze this weekend
nothing like a little ‘redo’.
Oh no!!! I am sure second time will be a charm! I had a little table that I had to redo 3 times, not the best time of my life..The glazing part scared me, I actually brought the dresser in the house and worked on it, I couldnt risk doing it in the garage in 110F weather..I would love to see some pictures of your glazing work!
I think the heat was part of the problem – the glaze was drying very fast … moving it back into the house today to start again!
It’s starting to get really hot here too, so if something cannot be done in the house, I will have to postpone until the fall..or get up really really early in the morning..Let me know how it turns out, I would love to see pictures!
Beautiful! Do you sell your pieces in an antique shop or on the Internet or keep them for yourself?
Thank you Amy! I sold some of my pieces on the internet, some on Craigslist, but I am definetlly looking to rent a space at an Antique Mall or something like that, my house is starting to get crowded..I havent yet found an affordable place, I checked one Antique Mall but the price was a little absurd..but I do like the exposure that you get by having the pieces out in a mall.
Denise, your dresser is gorgeous! Everything about is perfect. You did a wonderful job on it.

Thank you Mary Alice!
I love your dresser! The paint color is beautiful. I’ve glazed a lot of pieces but never waxed one. The dresser looks professionally done! I really like the knobs too. The vintage fan is a really neat piece. I did notice the beautiful frame and photograph right away. I love old photos. It looks like you have a real treasure there. Visiting from the Cowgirl up link party. Have a wonderful day. ~ Jamie

Thank you Lindsey, I am glad you like it!
Wow, that turned out amazing! I love everything about it…from the knobs and the color and the dark stain. Gorgeous! Thanks for the link on the Ebay seller too. I really need to get some good waxes, but can’t afford the ASCP shipping fees.
Hi Miranda! Thank you so much, I am glad you like it. I have bought wax from that Ebay seller in two separate occasions, and I was really happy. It shipped really fast, and most important free! And that is the best price I could find so far on that wax..I know it is more expensive than the other waxes, but it does go a long way, and the shine is amazing!
Absolutely beautiful! I love the color you choose and I never would have thought to use those knobs, but it looks perfect! I found you on the Cowgirl Up link party.
Thank you Angela!
Your styling looks great and I am loving the new blog layout. Fab!
Thanks Dana! I love the new layout better, and all the things I can now do on WordPress..there are still a little tweeks that I will have to do on the layout, and a little bit of rearranging, but its coming together.

I just love how you finished this dresser. It is so beautiful. I’ve been experimenting with glaze, also. I didn’t realize I could tint it with stain – thanks so much for the tip. I’m going to be giving it a try! Great job.
Hi Karen, thank you for the nice words! What I liked about using stain, is the fact that I can control the darkness of the glaze..Let me know how your project turns out.
Stunning!!! I love it – and the finish is just perfect! I think we think alike…I am doing a dresser in grey right now, but am waiting on those daggone knobs! Thanks for linking – t is just beautiful!

Thank you Ann!
This is fantastic. I love the color, the knobs and the distressing!
love the color what is the color? i have a dresser i bought at a garage sale and want to redo would love to do it in that color.
Hi Nancy! The color is a misting from Benjamin Moore, that had no label on it. The color itself was a very light gray, but I used glaze to darken it up a little bit. I will check if I can do a color match and will let you know. Thanks for stopping by!
love the color what is it called wanting to redo a dresser i bought at a garage sale
This looks amazing. Lovely blog. I look forward to seeing you at My Dream Canvas. Have a great day. Anu
This is a GORGEOUS piece! Love the knobs you chose–the contrast of the colors is beautiful.
very pretty, love the knobs, and chuckled when you described yourself as a knob horder. I thought I was alone ….. thanks for sharing your inspiration.
Beautiful! Just wondering what kind of brush you used since there were no brush marks and was wondering if you primed it first or just used the paint? Thanks!
Hi Heidi! I didn’t use any primer on this piece, since I wanted the wood to show trough after distressing. The brush that I used is a Benjamin Moore 2 inch brush. It was the first time using it, and I was really impressed by it…
Thanks for stopping by!
Such pretty curves and a great color and perfect distressing.
Thank you so much Maryann!!!

Another knock out. I love the color, the finish. Thanks for sharing. -K
Lovely dresser. What sort of Benj Moore paint was it? By chance, was it ADVANCE? I’ve started working with it and love it. Takes long to dry between coats but I did my “parcheesi dresser” in it and barely any streaks show up. I love your colors!
