When I first bought the dresser, I didn’t know exactly what I wanted to do with it..the idea came much later..I bought it from an estate sale, after seeing it’s picture on a Craigslist ad..I woke up at 5 am. and drove 70 miles, because I had to have it..Yes, I know, call me crazy..
It was structurally solid, but it needed a tone of repairs..all the bottom drawers had to be replaced because the wood was thin as a sheet of paper..it also had numerous layers of paint and lacquer..

I stripped the top to reveal the gorgeous and very heavy solid wood underneath..The top was stained with Minwax in Dark Walnut color..
Finding the knobs were an adventure, I’ve initially saw some at Hobby Lobby but when you need them you can never find them..so then I happen to find this gorgeous knobs in sale at Anthropologie..Clear is the way to go with the knobs, because I didnt want to distract the attention from the flag..
Once the flag was painted and dried, I sanded the edges to give it a worn look and antiqued it.
I used Fiddes wax in Light and Rugged brown, to create the antique, worn finish..
Anyway, I’m only showing tight shots of this dresser, but more details and tutorials will come down the road and I’ll let you know where you can find them.

I've been wanting to do a union jack on something and this is inspiring! I would love for you to link it up at my party at … http://www.doodlesandstitches.com/2012/06/another-fab-friday-thank-you-to.html
It's really amazing. I just think my math skills aren't up to the challenge and mine would turn out lop-sided or something. Very cool!
Thanks for sharing.
I also posted my Union Jack stuff (a whole bunch) tonight at Miss Mustard Seed, so I decided the theme of my blog-hopping would be the Union Jack. Your chest is to die for. The glass knobs are perfect. I even think that the shape of the chest was just right for the flag design. I am your newest Linky follower.

What an awesome paint job – I LOVE all the perfect shades and the fine lines! Funny that you mentioned the Union Jack as the Mecca of DIY-ers – I just sanded an old nightstand and I wanna paint a Union Jack. Just to mark “check” on my to do list and to get it out of my system.
Thanks Meeha! I wont say it wasnt challenging doing all the measurements, and making sure I am getting close to the original Union Jack design…also, I am not sure if I will attempt another one anytime sooner..But it was so much fun..I can’t wait to see your nighstand! I am sure it will turned out perfect!
Love your Union Jack – I too, have been dying to paint the symbol on something, anything… but have yet to do it! Great job- Visiting from POPP.

This looks lovely! I know what you mean about having the need to paint the Union Jack. Right now I am trying to decide whether I am going to do one on a wood chair or dresser. Thanks for the tip about clear knobs so it won’t distract from the design.
