…meet Magellan..
…This piece gave us some headaches..and a tone of work..I picked it up at an estate sale a while ago and it just sat there in my shop for a couple of months..it was in good condition but dated, and covered in thick, and I mean THICK coat of lacquer…after 3 rounds of stripping gel, and some really heavy sanding we manage to get it all cleaned up and ready to go..
My inspiration for this piece is this San Diego Sailor statue..I always loved how the white and navy stripes look together..

..but, it turned out, the stripes weren’t an easy job..didn’t know it is that hard to get them all even..there were some math calculations involved, to make sure we get them the same height and very importantly straight..but, we managed to get it done..and then I started on different projects, and I just put this one aside…so it sat there, all wrapped up like a mummy, screaming for a makeover, for maybe another month…
I used Frog Tape for this project, and it worked beautifully..I did had some blue paint leaking though on the hard to reach places, like corners, but it wasn’t very hard fixing it..
The blue stripes as a “custom” color by Benjamin Moore..I mean, I pretty much had two shades of blue leftovers from different projects, mixed them together, and got this pretty awesome navy color..
The pulls, I really cant remember where they are coming from..but they are nicely coming together.. I painted them with Rustoleum Oil Rubbed Bronze..
And did you catch that sneak pick one of the chairs I am working on? It is actually a redo of a redo…but, about that later next week..
